A former teacher, Dr. Gail Gross has become a nationally
recognized expert, author and lecturer on juvenile education, behavior
and development issues. Her positive
approach to difficult issues helps families navigate today’s complex
problems.
As a veteran radio talk show host, author, lecturer and television
talk show host for the nationally syndicated PBS program, “Let’s
Talk,” she frequently is called upon as an expert by top journalists
and always responds with a firm opinion and solid advice. She leaves
no room for “tough love” in her uncompromising “unconditional
love” approach.
Dr. Gross is a longtime leader in finding solutions to the nation’s
toughest education challenges. She co-founded the first-of-its-kind
Cuney Home School with husband Jenard in partnership with Texas
Southern University in 1996. The school serves as a national model
for improving the academic performance of students from housing
projects by engaging the parents. Additionally, she currently is
leading a landmark, year-long study in Houston Independent School
District to examine how stress-reduction affects academics and
attendance in elementary school students. Such work has earned
her accolades from distinguished leaders such as the Dalai Lama,
who presented her with the Spirit of Freedom award in 1998.
Dr. Gross’ soon-to-be-published second book, Smart for
Life, teaches parents how to enhance a child’s learning
potential through various developmental stages. Two additional
books are slated to follow, including People Who Grieve Can Live
Again, a guide to grieving through various stages of life, and
Defining Moments, which recounts the defining moments of her
celebrity guests from her PBS talk show, “Let’s Talk.”
Dr. Gross received a B.S. in education and psychology and an Ed.D in education curriculum and instruction from the University of Houston. She earned her master’s degree in secondary education with a focus on Psychology from the University of St. Thomas in Houston.
